Nurse ‘felt right’ trusting all 4 babies to Methodist

It was an easy decision for Ennis mom Kiran Lalani to deliver her fourth child at Methodist Midlothian Medical Center.

After all, she’s been a Methodist mom from the beginning, delivering her first child at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in 2020 before having the next three at Midlothian, all four of them scheduled C-sections.

“When I first chose Methodist Midlothian in 2021, the labor and delivery unit had just opened,” says Kiran, 35. “I’ll admit I was nervous about choosing a new hospital.”

Those concerns were quickly laid to rest, she says, when she met the nurses and doctors on the medical staff.

“The staff was absolutely amazing,” says Kiran, a registered nurse herself. “That’s been my go-to hospital, and the entire team has walked with me through so many family milestones.”

BIG DECISION TO MAKE

Before Midlothian’s first hospital opened in November 2020, Kiran chose Methodist Mansfield for the birth of her first baby, Channing, in 2020.

“There was a chance that my daughter would need NICU services when she was born,” she recalls, “so we trusted the team at Methodist Mansfield for that delivery.”

The following year, Kiran was pregnant again and had a choice to make, after her family relocated to Ennis. She could have her second daughter, Rylee, at a larger hospital closer to home or drive a bit farther north and put her trust in the brand-new Methodist Midlothian.

“I couldn’t ignore how well we had been cared for at Methodist Mansfield,” she says. “Choosing Methodist Midlothian felt right.”

She gave birth again in 2022 to her son, Kaisen, and her family’s newest addition arrived in October 2024, with her third daughter, Mila Grace.

“Every part of my care exceeded my expectations,” Kiran says.

PLENTY OF SPACE, STAFF

Methodist Midlothian opened just three months before Kiran delivered her second daughter, and the new hospital’s labor and delivery unit offered plenty of perks to expecting moms and their families.

“I love how large the rooms were,” she says, “and how I didn’t have to move to a different room for each part of my care.”

That’s all by design, says Kiran’s doctor, Jason Brown, MD, OB-GYN on the medical staff at Methodist Midlothian.

“She delivered in a space that had been given a lot of thought and consideration by hospital leadership,” Dr. Brown says. “The labor and delivery floor is easy to get to, extremely efficient, well-equipped, and welcoming to families.”

The high nurse-to-patient ratio is also appealing for expectant mothers, Dr. Brown says.

“Our moms notice the small, intimate teams they receive care from and say how special it makes them feel,” he says.

BEATING EXPECTATIONS

For every one of her births, Kiran and her husband felt cared for in a comforting, family-friendly environment.

“Every single person on staff — from housekeeping to the labor and delivery nurses — was welcoming, authentic, and kind,” she says, noting that her husband felt taken care of, too. “It was a great relief to me knowing his needs were being met, as well.”

That’s why Kiran now sings the praises of Methodist Midlothian to any would-be mothers she encounters.

“I never once felt like something was missed or a resource wasn’t provided,” she says. ”I recommend Methodist Midlothian labor and delivery as often as I can.”
